02 engine room // introducing Joomla!
Joomla! is a free open source content management system (CMS). It began life in 2005 as an offshoot of the Mambo CMS and is currently no. 2 in the open source content management ratings. Joomla! is maintained by a huge and loyal community of developers which is growing all the time.
Standard Joomla! has all the features expected of a CMS plus a directory of around 4,000 supported add-on features, many of which are also free. New features can be added to your site at any time.
Once you have Joomla! installed, you can add and update your own web site content (including images, menus and news) via a simple WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor in any browser.
Joomla! works on a template system. You can choose from a huge number of free and commercial templates, or have me design a site and build a custom template for you.
